Mosaic Landscapes workshop (3-day class) with Darcel Deneau

Description:  In this immersive three-day workshop, students will explore the art of creating realistic mosaic landscapes. The class will begin with foundational drawing techniques, focusing on perspective, proportion, and composition to establish a strong visual framework.

Once the design is established, the focus will shift to selecting and working with colored glass, learning how to choose the right tones and textures to bring landscapes to life in mosaic form.

Students will work at their own pace, and individual attention will be provided throughout the workshop to help each participant achieve their personal artistic goals.

Materials included: Wood panel (substrate), stained glass, photo references (students are welcome to bring their own photos), T-square, ruler, glue, pencils, eraser, and grease pencil

Students should bring: Favorite tools for making mosaics, scrap glass, specialty glass, sentimental or ornamental objects, found objects, etc. (Luna Mosaic Arts has basic glass cutting tools available for students to use during class)




About the Instructor: Darcel Deneau

Darcel Deneau, a 2021 Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellow, is a graduate of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. With over two decades of experience, she draws inspiration from her love for the city and its resurgence. Her painting background influences the expressive, painterly style of her mosaic work.

Deeply involved in Detroit’s arts community, Darcel serves as president of the College for Creative Studies Alumni Council and is an honorary board member of the Detroit Artists Market. Her work is widely collected in both public and private collections. Beyond her studio practice, she is a respected speaker, juror, and instructor. A member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA), she regularly attends its annual conference.

In 2024, Darcel received second-place awards from both the jurors and the public at an international mosaic biennale in Chartres, France.

- Balance due 30 days before class or workshop date.
- Full Refund - 30 days prior to the class or workshop minus a $50 processing fee.
- Full Refund if class or workshop is canceled.
- No Refunds - within 30 days of the class or workshop unless we can fill your space minus a $50 processing fee.
- No Refunds - within 7 days of the class or workshop.
