How did you get started in mosaics?
I have always been a creative person. I have a degree in Fine Arts, but was pushed toward Graphic Design in college. That did not suit me and I never followed that path. After graduating I tried many mediums, basket weaving, stone sculpting, paint, clay etc. One day I picked up some mosaic tile, thinking it was just another thing to try, and I never stopped!
How long have you been creating mosaic art?
since about 2010.
What about mosaics resonates with you?
The materials- glass, ceramic tile, beads and bling. I like starting with the colors, mixing and matching. I like the different finishes, the way light plays on different materials.

What is your favorite part of the mosaic process?
The design and main image. Truthfully, tiling backgrounds drive me a bit nuts. I do love the problem-solving aspects of making mosaics and finding the perfect shade of a color that suits a piece perfectly.
Do you have a favorite subject matter?
Anything nature. Trees, flowers, animals.
What is your favorite thing you have created and why?
I made some mosaic pears after taking Sharra Frank’s class. I loved those. Also I made a very big sloth once, and a series of trees with different animals/birds in them. I guess I don’t have a single favorite.
What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of mosaics?
Pricing
What is your least favorite thing about mosaics and why?
Grout. Never been my favorite part, although I love the outcome.
Tell us a little about your studio space.
I am in between studio space at the moment. I had a whole bedroom converted to a studio which I loved. Then we moved. We are gong to convert a barn to be my studio, but … permits! Currently, I work an a little 24x24 inch counter top in the mudroom. Well, I also have my tile all over the garage a lot still boxed along with all my substrates, craft show stuff etc. And, I took over a guest bedroom to store finished mosaicss and lay out works in progress. Saying that out loud makes me realize I really need a space to contain myself!
